Biography
Assistant Director of Bands - MHS, MNMS, MBI

Mr. Cleon Chai is assistant director of bands at Mustang High School, Mustang North Middle School, and Meadow Brook Intermediate School. He is about to start his fourth year of teaching music, second full-time in the district. Bands and chamber ensembles under Mr. Chai's direction have consistently given strong performances, and many of his students have qualified for district honor bands. Mr. Chai is a proud graduate of Oklahoma State University. While at Oklahoma State, Mr. Chai was a member of the Oklahoma State Trumpet Ensembles that won the 2014 and 2015 editions of the National Trumpet Competition. He has performed at the International Trumpet Guild annual conferences in Georgia, Michigan, Pennsylvania, and California, as well as at the Collegiate Orchestra Directors Association conference in Cleveland, Ohio, and at the Japan Band Clinic in Hamamatsu City, Japan. Mr. Chai also studied at Eastern Music Festival in 2013 and 2014 and Round Top Music Festival in 2015, studying with esteemed performers such as Chris Gekker, Jeff Kaye, Judith Saxton, Tom Booth, Marie Speziale, and Raymond Riccomini. Mr. Chai also performed with the Boston Crusaders Drum and Bugle Corps in 2009 and 2010.

In addition to his love of Classical and Jazz Music, Mr. Chai’s interests include coffee, tennis, soccer, disc golf, chess, Oklahoma State sports, and Thunder basketball.
