Biography
Ms. Thompson is Director of Bands at Mustang Middle School, Coordinator of sixth grade band for Horizon Intermediate School, Woodwind specialist for Mustang High School Bands, and director of the Jazz Ensemble 1 at Mustang High School.
Gina N. Thompson began her teaching career in Bowlegs, Oklahoma as both the band instructor and elementary music educator and has since spent 18 years as a music educator both in Oklahoma and Texas. Under her direction, Ms. Thompson’s bands have received superior ratings in concert, sight-reading and jazz performance, earning the middle school Outstanding Achievement Award multiple times as well as the high school Sweepstakes Award. Ms. Thompson earned a Bachelor of Instrumental Music Education from the University of Central Oklahoma and a Master of Music in Performance and Pedagogy from Oklahoma State University where she studied wind band conducting with Dr. Joseph Missal. During her time at OSU, Ms. Thompson had the distinct pleasure of performing with the OSU Wind Ensemble for the All-Japan band Directors Conference in Hamamatsu City, Japan and had also performed with the Oklahoma City Philharmonic. Ms. Thompson is active as a private instructor, adjudicator, clinician and performer, and credits her early instruction in band under the direction of Ms. Rosalind Purdy as her inspiration to become a music educator.
